FileTwister is a simple, easy to use file encryption tool that allows you to
encrypt any files on your computer. The encrypted files are completely Internet safe and are only about 100 bytes longer than the original file. This means you can send them via e-mail or upload them to servers without losing any information, which makes them ideal for storing sensitive data on the net. By setting up FileTwister as a helper to Netscape (or Internet Explorer) you can make Internet transfers even smoother.
Instructions
---------------------------------------------
To encrypt files with FileTwister:
1) Launch FileTwister. Choose "Encode" from the file menu. Find and open the file you wish to encrypt in the open dialog. Alternatively you can choose the file you want to encrypt in the Finder, then drag and drop the file on to the FileTwister icon.
2) A dialog window will now appear with the text "Enter key...". This is your password, which will be used as an encryption key for encrypting the file and will also function as the password to unlock the file (NOTE: The password must be longer than two characters). Once you are ready click the blue button or press enter/return.
3) A save dialog will now appear. Choose where you want to save the encrypted file.
4) A progress bar will now appear. Once the bar is full the window will close and the encryption is finished.
NOTE: With the unregistered version you cannot encrypt files larger than 500k
To decrypt files previously encrypted with FileTwister:
1) Launch FileTwister. Choose "Decode" from the file menu. Find and open the file you want to decrypt in the open dialog. You can also drag and drop it on the FileTwister icon.
2) A dialog window will now appear with the text "Enter key...". Here you enter the password to unlock the file (NOTE: The key is case sensitive). Once you are ready click the blue button or press enter.
3) If you entered the correct key a save dialog will now appear. Choose where to save the decrypted file.
4) A progress bar will now appear. Once the bar is full the window will close and the decryption is finished.
To setup FileTwister as a helper for Netscape:
This can be very helpful if you transfer files encrypted with FileTwister over the Internet, since it makes Netscape automatically open the file with FileTwister when the download is complete.
1) Open Netscape and select "Preferences..." from the "Edit" menu.
2) Click "Applications" in the list on the left of the dialog and click the "New" button.
3) Enter "FileTwister file" in the description field, enter "application/filetwister" in the MIME Type field and enter ".twt" in the Sufflix field. Click the "Application" radio button in the sub-dialog box, then click the "Choose..." button and select the FileTwister application from the dialog box which appears.
4) Click the "OK" button to exit the Preferences dialog.
To set up FileTwister as a helper to Internet Explorer there is surely some similar way to do it.
